A Vintage Valentine

Revisiting this post from 2011.

This is what's on my heart today.

Their Love Story

A boy born of Italian Immigrants.  The second oldest of eleven children.

A fatherless girl living just over the bridge in Brooklyn, N.Y.   One of seven children of Italian immigrants.

He goes off to war.

They meet and court and in 1955,  marry.

They live in their first apartment in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Children didn't bless the couple until 9 years after they married.  After many sorrows, tears and prayers, a daughter is born.

Four years later a son is born.

Life goes on for the simple family.   Of simple means and education but rich in love, they did the best they were equipped to do for their little family.

The Lord calls home the wife in 1987 after 32 years of marriage.

He loves her until the day he dies in 2004.

The couple?  My parents.

Beautiful, loving, family oriented people who would never win any awards, make the cover of a magazine or be a headline on the news.

Two people who loved the Lord and their family more than anything in the world.

Two people who made me who I am today.

I can no longer remember the sound of their voices.

I sometimes forget what her personality was like.

I miss being loved unconditionally and being "Daddy's girl".

I sometimes feel their presence and can see them in my daughter's eyes.

The circle of life.

Two souls who carry on in the hearts of those that loved them.

Roselle,
Such a beautiful post and a wonderful tribute to your parents. My parents story is very similar . My Dad died in the early 80's and my Mom longed for him until the day she passed away 7 years ago. I know they are now together once again as your parents are but they live in my heart and through my children as I know your parents live through you and your children!

Thanks so much for sharing their lovely story!!

Hugs,
Debbie

Oh Roselle,
Your story just touched my heart as I see so many similarites to my own mother and dad. You have beautiful memories and wonderful keepsakes that I am sure are more precious then gold. Your mother and dad are a beautiful couple.
I know your parents are so proud of the wonderful daughter they raised. You will always carry their love within you.

Thank you for sharing this precious story of a faithful family and marriage.

Have a special weekend.

Oh gosh, Roselle,
Now I need kleenex!!! This is gorgeous and I just read the story about you and your dad too...You are so young to have lost both of your parents...I can just imagine how emotional this was to write, but oh my goodness, what a love story! The day you were born must have been the happiest day of their lives after waiting all that time! What a miracle!
Love,

Roselle, your Mom was gorgeous. My parents got married in 1953 and my Mom wore a fancy suit with a beautiful blouse. She said not everyone wore beautiful dresses and she was to practical. My Mom turned 80 yesterday and dad died 12 years ago, I was a Daddies girl too. Thank you for a sweet story! And thank you for always leaving the kindest comments.

Oh Roselle you stole my heart with this post! How lovely for you to have such wonderful faith based parents. In this day and age they would make my headlines and be my type of silent hero. Standing in faith for your family is a humbling experience and it is how love grows and blossoms! Big squishy hugs,

I cried reading this beautiful passage and I cry now as I type this. I have the best childhood memories thanks to your Mom and Dad. She spoiled me and his soft gently smile warmed my heart. They raised a beautiful woman who has passed on the true meaning of what family and love is all about. Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for being a wonderful cousin. I love you!!
